Many years ago, UNICEF helped me during my childhood amidst the turmoil of war. They provided me with food, school supplies, and sorely needed winter boots and clothing. Even the protective plastic sheeting we used to cover our shattered windows came from UNICEF.

This October 18th, I will embark on my Second Annual walk-and-run Marathon in support of UNICEF and the millions of children worldwide who need help.

Conquering a distance of 26 miles/42 kilometers on the anniversary of being wounded during the war is far more than a physical feat for me. It is an intimate meditation on my journey as a survivor of war, fueled by my continued commitment to heal and grow from trauma and create a positive impact on the lives of others, especially children of war.

My fundraising goal of $1810 is symbolic as it mirrors the date of my anniversary – the 18th of October.
